Pre-Apprenticeship Programs

YB

MiSide is a Michigan Apprenticeship Readiness Certificate (MARC) certified pre-apprenticeship program.  Our current program is in the construction trades.  This pre-apprenticeship program is designed to prepare you for entry into a registered apprenticeship.  The skill building includes the fundamentals of construction, hands-on experience, and career readiness training. With a direct link to unions and employers, you are guaranteed employment or an interview with a local union.

More pre-apprenticeship programs to come!

The Program

Our vocational training focuses on construction training track for the skilled trades. Participants will learn industry-recognized skills through the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research), as well as apply that knowledge through hands-on work rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income and homeless families in Detroit. They will also work on special construction projects all the while learning about entrepreneurship. The training is a blend between the work site and the classroom, where participants work toward earning their high school diploma or equivalency, along with certifications such as NCCER, Customer Service, Lead, and Asbestos Abatement. Given that we are a CLEP (College Level Examination Program) testing site, we also help participants prepare for postsecondary opportunities, including college and apprenticeships.  With the Pre-Apprenticeship program you will:

  • Rehab a home as well as working on hands-on carpentry projects
  • Receive High School Diploma/High School Equivalency (HSD/HSE) academic instruction if needed
  • Receive MIOSHA30, First AID, Customer Service, and NCCER pre-apprentice credential, Lead and Asbestos certificate, MUST (Management and Unions Serving Together) certificate.
