Services:
Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) is a prevention-based program that aims to reduce expulsions and suspensions in childcare settings. Consultants work with early care and education providers and families to improve their ability to positively develop children's social, emotional, and behavioral health from birth through age five. Consultants also provide training on social emotional/mental health needs to young children.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What does "prevention-based" mean? Many programs work with consultants before there are "challenging behaviors" or concerns. Consultants provide helpful tips, resources, and a safe space for reflection. The leads to enhancing the overall quality of the learning environment.
What are the benefits of IECMHC?
Consultants can help caregivers, teachers and families:
- Foster stronger relationships between children and the adults who care for them.
- Promote healthy social and emotional growth for all children.
- Reduce caregiver stress and burn out.
- Reduce incidents of "challenging behaviors", suspension, and expulsion.
- Create trauma-informed, equitable, and happy learning experiences for children.
- Learn more about resources in the community.
Will the consultant diagnose or provide therapy to children? Consultants do not work directly with the children and do not diagnose children. Consultants assist with making refferals as needed. Please see MiEarlyYears Infant Mental Health for clinical services.
