MiEarlyYears Families Celebrate Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, the Northrop Head Start and Early Head Start building buzzed with excitement as families came together to celebrate Black history. Families from the MiEarlyYears program participated in a unique event where they created colorful pasteboard presentations about famous Black historical figures.

The families showcased their creativity and dedication, bringing history to life with their vibrant displays. Among the highlighted figures were George Washington Carver, celebrated for his agricultural innovations; William Barry, a lesser-known but significant contributor to history; Robert Flemming, Jr., an inventor; and the empowering "Black Girl Magic" movement, which celebrates the achievements and resilience of Black women.

The event aimed to teach children about the contributions of the Black community to society. Each presentation served as an educational tool, fostering an environment of learning and appreciation among families.

The collaborative spirit of the event reflected the core values of the MiEarlyYears program, emphasizing education, inclusivity, and cultural awareness.

Through these engaging presentations, the MiEarlyYears families not only honored significant historical figures but also inspired a new generation to recognize and celebrate the rich heritage of the Black community.
