Hope for the Holidays: Caevion’s Journey from Homelessness to Healing

For Caevion, the end of 2024 brings the end of one of the toughest years of his life. He has experienced some of his lowest lows, but also some of his highest highs.

Back in January, Caevion was arrested for a crime he did not commit, and he has been working to get his life back ever since. When he was finally released after a month, he was facing an 18-month long probation.

In March, he learned about YouthBuild from a current student, and he showed up the next day to sign up for classes as soon as he could.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the solution to all of his problems. Caevion ended up on the streets in April and spent nights shivering when the sun went down. Despite this, he was never late for class, he was so dedicated to changing his life.

Thankfully, his teacher, Ms. Yaneth, noticed something was not right and she asked Caevion if he needed help. “I just couldn’t go home that night without knowing he had a safe place to stay”, Ms. Yaneth shared.

After hours and hours of phone calls and surfing the web, Ms. Yaneth found him a spot at a local shelter. Since then, Caevion has been living in the shelter and coming to class every day, working hard to better his life.

Thanks to you, Caevion is able to eat two hot meals a day during class, giving him the fuel he needs to learn. But unfortunately, relying on public transportation is not always reliable and sometimes he does not make it back to the shelter in time for dinner.

"Sometimes they would not have anything left and I would just have to ask one of the staff for a snack if there is no more dinner left."

He often has to sit with the pain of hunger while he tries to sleep. No one should have to face this alone, and thanks to you, they don’t.

As we gather with family and friends around a table full of food, too many of our neighbors are spending their holidays alone and hungry.

"As far as holidays go, I am not really sure what to do anymore. I used to spend it with family, but I don't have that anymore. It's just another day I guess"

You have the chance to give the gift of nourishment this holiday season. Life should not have to be this hard, and with your support, it doesn’t have to be.

“You guys saved my life. If I wasn’t here, I don’t know where I would be right now.”

Thank you for saving lives like Caevion’s. There are so many others like him that need your generous heart.

Can they count on you? Will you Feed Your Neighbor this holiday season?
