MiWealth Awarded $315,000 Grant by EPA to Support Job Training in Detroit
MiWealth is proud to announce that we have been selected to receive a $315,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This funding, made possible through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will enable us to recruit, train, and place workers in community revitalization and cleanup projects at brownfield sites in Detroit.
With this grant, MiWealth will train 60 students and place 34 in environmental jobs. The training program includes over 110 hours of instruction, providing participants with up to 12 federal certifications in areas such as HAZWOPER, OSHA Health and Safety, and asbestos abatement. By partnering with organizations like Detroit at Work, Michigan Works Agency, and the Detroit Home Builders, we aim to create sustainable career pathways for Detroit residents, focusing on underserved and economically disadvantaged adults.
“This grant offers an incredible opportunity for Detroiters to gain meaningful employment while contributing to environmental cleanup and community revitalization,” said Hector Hernandez, Executive Director of MiWealth.
This initiative reflects the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to advancing environmental justice and economic opportunity, delivering on the goals of the Justice40 Initiative.
