Diana's Story: A Safe Place To Call Home

When Diana and her family arrived in Michigan they did not know what to expect. Coming from Texas where they had their own home and warm weather year round, Michigan was a shock to their system. 

They moved around a few times, renting places with poor infrastructure and dangerous neighborhoods. Diana knew that she needed to find somewhere that she could feel good about raising her kids there. That is when she stumbled upon Newberry. 

Walking down the street, Diana noticed homes being renovated and she asked about buying one. The contractors told her to connect with MiSide, and from there, her life changed. 

Diana worked with MiSide staff to fill out all of the necessary applications and take all of the helpful classes, before being approved. The Homebuyer Education courses taught Diana about what it took to own a home and have a mortgage through a lender. 

“They won’t leave you hanging.” 

The home that she owned in Texas was not done through a bank, it was passed from owner to owner, without much security. This was the first time Diana has owned a home that she knew was hers through and through. 

Now she has a great relationship with all of her neighbors, many of them Southwest Solutions Newberry homeowners themselves. She was even able to get her daughter through the program and now they are neighbors. 

“We all know each other.” 

Her husband, Daniel, has started working with Southwest Solutions as one of the go-to contractors for the area. He has worked on many of the houses in the Newberry neighborhood and is excited to be able to give back and support his neighbors.
